Are you thinking about starting your own pet sitting or dog walking business in ? Do you like animals? There may be more to it than you think! It’s best to inform yourself before diving head first into a new venture.
For a kid that wants to make a few bucks on the side, they can walk the neighbors dog after school and earn a nice monthly income. Say anywhere from $20. to $50. per week. Believe it or not, there is a girl in my complex that pays a teenager $100 per week to walk her dogs twice a day. That is great money for a teen! Just think if she did that for a few neighbors each day.
For someone looking to watch pets in their own home while the owner is away or in the owners home, you should have your own business and LLC. It’s always good to be protected under an LLC or corporation just in case something happens and you end up in a law suit. For example: You are pet sitting and you open the front door for the pizza guy. It only takes a second for a dog to run into the street if she gets by you. Try explaining that to the owner when they arrive home.
I could go on and on but I highly recommend you inform yourself before you start. One thing you can do is set up a meeting with your local small business association and ask them any questions you may have on starting your own pet sitting or dog walking business. Check with your local chamber of commerce and see if they have any recommendations or if you need to be licensed by the city and county in which you live.
